Advanced subsea installations

Advanced subsea installations reducing CO2 footprint significantly

When AKOFS Offshore introduced the Skandi Santos in 2010 with the new specialized service of installing X-mas trees and associated equipment at deep and ultra deep water for Petrobras, this very quickly led to a reduction in use of drilling rigs.

- A total of nearly 10 rig days saved per X-mas tree installed (including associated equipment and components)

Petrobras has itself estimated this to be (OTC-27959-MS)
- A total of nearly 10 rig days saved per X-mas tree installed (including associated equipment and components)

Aker Wayfarer was later added to the same “SESV” service in 2015, and both are in operation for Petrobras today. With a total of more than 400 trees installed or retrieved since the startup of this service, there is a combined net saving of approximately 10 rig years. This is a significant cost saving for Petrobras.Secondly, and more importantly, the reduction in GHG emissions is significant. This shows how innovative solutions and effective operations can lead to substantial reduction in GHG emission.

A normal drilling rig in operation, without accounting for the associated support vessels, has a combined CO2 emission pr. year in the order of 60-70 000 tonnes. The emission from the SESV vessel will correspond approximately to the emission of the support vessels to the drilling rig, i.e. giving the drilling rig savings as net savings of CO2 emission. As such, the effective services of the two AKOFS Offshore vessels (Skandi Santos and Aker Wayfarer) have given a total reduction of CO2 emissions in the order of 6-700 000 tonnes.
